Cookie Policy
Last updated: April 2026
This policy explains how GetClearSafe uses cookies and similar technologies, in compliance with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device (computer, tablet, or phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to the website operator.
Cookies can be:
- Session cookies — Deleted automatically when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookies — Remain on your device until they expire or you delete them manually.
- First-party cookies — Set by the website you are visiting (getclearsafe.com).
- Third-party cookies — Set by external services used on our website (e.g., Clerk, Stripe).
2. How GetClearSafe Uses Cookies
GetClearSafe uses a minimal number of cookies, primarily for authentication and essential platform functionality. We take a privacy-first approach:
- We do not use advertising cookies.
- We do not use third-party tracking pixels or retargeting tools.
- We do not use analytics cookies (this may change in the future — see Section 5).
- We use only essential cookies that are strictly necessary for the platform to function.
Under PECR Regulation 6, essential cookies that are strictly necessary for a service explicitly requested by the user do not require consent. All cookies listed below fall into this category.
3. Essential Cookies
These cookies are strictly necessary for GetClearSafe to operate. Without them, the platform cannot function correctly. These cookies cannot be disabled.
3.1 Authentication Cookies (Clerk)
Set by our authentication provider, Clerk, to keep you signed in securely.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| __clerk_db_jwt | Clerk | Secure authentication session token. Verifies your identity on each request. | Session |
| __client_uat | Clerk | User activity timestamp for maintaining authentication state across tabs and page loads. | 1 year |
| __session | Clerk | Session identifier linking your browser to your authenticated session. | Session |
3.2 Payment Cookies (Stripe)
Set by our payment processor, Stripe, when you visit the billing page or complete a payment.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| __stripe_mid | Stripe | Fraud prevention. Helps Stripe identify your device to detect and prevent fraudulent transactions. | 1 year |
| __stripe_sid | Stripe | Session identifier for payment processing. Links your browser session to the current payment flow. | 30 minutes |
3.3 Preference Cookies (GetClearSafe)
Set by GetClearSafe to remember your cookie consent choice and site preferences.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| clearsafe_cookie_consent | GetClearSafe | Stores your cookie consent preferences so we don't show the cookie banner repeatedly. | 1 year |
3.4 localStorage and Similar Technologies
In addition to cookies, GetClearSafe uses browser localStorage to store certain preferences locally on your device.
| Key | Purpose | Legal Basis |
|---|---|---|
| clearsafe_active_site | Remembers your last selected site in the site switcher. Stored in browser localStorage (not a cookie). | Strictly necessary under PECR Regulation 6 for the site switcher feature. No consent is required. |
4. Analytics Cookies
GetClearSafe does not currently use any analytics cookies.
If we introduce analytics in the future (e.g., to understand how users interact with the platform), we will:
- Update this Cookie Policy before introducing analytics cookies.
- Request your explicit consent via the cookie banner before setting any analytics cookies.
- Allow you to opt out at any time via “Cookie Settings” in the footer.
5. Marketing Cookies
GetClearSafe does not use any marketing, advertising, or retargeting cookies. We do not use Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, LinkedIn Insight, or any similar tracking technologies.
6. Third-Party Cookies
The only third-party cookies used on GetClearSafe are set by:
- Clerk (clerk.com) — Authentication and session management. Clerk sets cookies to keep you signed in securely across page loads and browser tabs. Clerk's privacy policy: clerk.com/legal/privacy.
- Stripe (stripe.com) — Payment processing and fraud detection. Stripe sets cookies when you interact with billing or checkout pages. Stripe's privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy.
- Vercel (vercel.com) — Application hosting and edge routing. Vercel may set cookies or HTTP headers as part of infrastructure delivery (e.g., edge routing and load balancing). These are strictly necessary for the delivery of the service and are outside GetClearSafe's direct control. Vercel's privacy policy: vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Each third-party service is governed by their own cookie and privacy policies. We have data processing agreements (DPAs) in place with all three providers (Clerk, Stripe, and Vercel).
7. Managing Cookies
You can manage your cookie preferences in the following ways:
7.1 Cookie Banner
When you first visit GetClearSafe, a cookie banner appears allowing you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. Since we currently use only essential cookies, accepting or declining does not change functionality.
7.2 Browser Settings
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- View what cookies are stored on your device.
- Delete individual or all cookies.
- Block cookies from specific or all websites.
- Set preferences for first-party vs third-party cookies.
Important: Disabling essential cookies (particularly Clerk authentication cookies) will prevent GetClearSafe from functioning correctly. You will not be able to sign in or use the platform.
7.3 Browser-Specific Instructions
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
7.4 Withdrawing Consent
You may withdraw your cookie consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies and localStorage for getclearsafe.com. This will reset all consent preferences.
You can also use the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer to update your preferences.
8. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, particularly if we introduce new cookie categories (e.g., analytics). The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly.
If we introduce non-essential cookies, we will update the cookie banner to request your consent before setting them.
